Anyone Test drive the Elkheart??

I'm curious how JavaMans new bows compare with the schrews.

They would compare well I would imagine since he was making the Shrews.

I have a SS Samurai that is about as good shooting and naturally pointing bow as any I have shot. I regretfully traded a Javaman Sweetgrass several years ago in a moment of temporary insanity.  I didn't realize then what I had.  It was a very sweet shooting bow.  I would say the two were very similar, with the Javaman perhaps being a little smoother given the 6" longer length.

I wouldn't hesitate to get another one.

Schrews are so hard to come by and JavaMans bows are pretty reasonable.  Love to hear from someone who's shot both.  My thinking is JavaMans waitlist is going to grow dramatically.

I don't think he has a test drive program, I just worded it that way. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Forgive me for stepping delicately in a subject in which I'm sure there are some personal feelings but ... isn't the Javaman "Elkheart" essentially the same bow as the Shrew "Classic Hunter"?

I mean, he is the man that built (and I am assuming is still building the remaining orders) for the Shrew line of bows for the last several years.

In that line of thinking, if you've shot a Shrew and liked it, you will like the Elkheart.  If you read a positive review of the Shrew, you've essentially read a positive review of the Elkheart.  Or am I missing something?

Again, forgive me for stepping right in it.

Jedimaster, you bring up a good point. I've always wanted a Shrew but since they are no longer being made I thought a Javaman bow would be on the same level. Hopefully someone can confirm this.

Jedimaster, very well put.
I hope I'm not stirring anything up and I apologize if I have. Definitely not the intent.

I think Gregg is an OUTSTANDING craftsman, and really appreciated his knowledge and willingness to keep communication going when I was making decisions about a special bow he build for me a while back.  He gave me great advice on several points I was considering, and each of his thoughts proved to be spot-on when I got the bow in my hands.

I'd simply say, "Call him," and ask whatever questions you have.  I think he could offer some great perspectives on any similarities or differences to another bow you are familiar with.

My guess is that you will be very pleased if you decide to get a Javaman bow.

I am planning on spying out Gregg's wares at Kalamazoo.  I want to talk to him, try his bows, and get a feel for what he has to offer.  He has some original bow designs/ideas that I want to see first-hand.

The Elkheart is similar to the Classic.  But with slightly revised handle section and improved limb profile for more performance.  There will be a handful at Kalamazoo, both LH and RH and T/D's.

Thank you,

Gregg
