Does this spine seem right?

Gonna take some test shafts to the range for a Widow PSAX I got this week from the classifieds.  I used Stu's calculator which usually gets me very close but this time it recommended a 31" 2117 w/ a 125 gr tip for my 47@27 PSA, I'd of thought that arrow would be way stiff, guess I won't know until I shoot but I'll prob buy a few shafts to try.  Does this sound close to anyone?

What is your draw length with that bow and how close is it cut to center?  Those two factors play a large part in what shaft will work.

27 is my draw, I believe Widow's are cut to center.

I have found that widows require a little stiffer arrow than normal, but not near as stiff as stew recommends for my bows.  I am usually 10 pounds light according to his calculator.

I would think that is stiff, I have had great luck with 1916 and 2016 with bows in that range.

I've found the same to be true for me as well.  I think Stu's calculator is a useful tool to get you in the ballpark but it's no substitute for a day at the range with a few shafts of different spine and a handful of tip weights!

2117s 31" 125 point would be slightly weak for my pma 46@30, but I do draw 30".

Why would you want a 31 inch arrow if you have a 27 inch draw.  Go to a lighter spined shaft.

They are cut 3/16" past center,I believe. They need a stiff arrow.

I'm going to try several shafts but I like the weight total the 2117 gives me, I could cut down a weaker shaft, like a .500, but then my arrow seems to get light on me, and according to stu the .500's are way weak anyway.  I wont know until I shoot but I'm wondering what to take with me.  I would of thought a .500 would be near perfect and probably would of assumed it was and taken only that had I not looked at Stu's calculator.

I would think that 2117s with 125grn tips are going to be a little stiff.  If that is what you have, give it a try.  It might shoot fine, but I have found most bows that are cut a little past center can be tuned to shoot several different shafts well.  That allows you to choose you shaft based on weight as well as spine.  Good luck and let us know your results.

28.5" 2114 with a 125gr tip. With 3x4" feathers, that'll put it around 455gr

Seems about right for a PSA and a 31" shaft.  With a 27" draw you could get away with a much shorter arrow and less shaft.

If its arrow weight your concerned about, a 2018 & 2020 are both heavier than a 2117.
