Flu flus for small game/stumping arrows?
« on: January 20, 2013, 02:27:00 PM »
I was just wondering what most people use for stumping and small game hunting? Regular feathers or flu flu feathers.

I go with full size banana cut with a lot of helical for squirrels in trees. They dodge FluFlu's too easily around here. Lots of hawks. On the ground regular fletching. Bunnies I use the same.

Regular, unless I hunted squirells more.  I want my stumpin arrow flight to match my hunting arrows, and I don't shoot flu flus at deer.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I use my regular fletched arrows for everything. I only use flu-flus for aerial targets. Like others have said, squirrels can dodge flu-flus.

The only time I use a flu-flu is for an overhead shot.  95% of my small game is taken on the ground and even more so for stumps.  ;-)

Grey squirrels really do duck flu-flus.  Red squirrels duck regular three fletch pretty regularly!

When stumpin' I shoot both but when it comes to the tree rats I shoot the regulars. Even then it's tuff getting through their invisible shields....They have shields!!...That's my story and I'm stickin to it!

Actually went out the other day at my brother's farm and shot a few stumps with regular and flu flu's. This was the first time I really paid attention to the difference, the flu flu's were noticably slower and louder. I can see where a quick little squirrel could dodge one, but if shooting up into the tree I think they would be the best bet for a arrow recovery. So I say take both.
