Hares in Anchorage?

Ok, so my spot near Girdwood that I used last year seems to have dried up and I'm trying to find another area to hunt. Is there anyone familiar with the Anchorage area that could give a southeast AK guy a hint on where to go? Here's one I got last year and I'd really like to find more!

Down here in Homer there is still plenty of bunnies if you go to the right places (mostly away from people)

Used to do some fine rabbit hunting on the lower Skilak road on the Kenai Peninsula when I lived there. That would be about an hour south of Girdwood.

My Uncle lives in Girdwood, i will ask him if there are any good places close by, although he isnt a hunter, he is out side biking and skiing all the time.
Stop in and say hi, he has the bike and ski shop.

Thanks guys, as soon as this -10 degrees business is over I'll give it another go. I'll have to get on the map and find Skilak Rd.

Back in the 80's when I was stationed at Elmendorf we went to the river flats off the Knik River off the Old Glen Highway just south of Palmer. Good flat ground and lots of rabbit holes.
Who knows how it is now.

We hunt the Palmer area and numbers are down but improving slightly over the dump they took about 3 years ago.
We hunt w/.22 pistols and killed between 100-180 per year but not anymore. \\
Also they get a lot of pressure and most run far and fast.

Just down the road in Bird Creek on the ridge across from the Bird Creek trail can be good at times, remember rabbits are cyclic , maybe they are down in general right now.
In Girdwood there is a trail that goes from the arm , behind the forest service office that comes out at California creek on Crow Creek road , this has been good at times.
Of course check the area by the airport as well.
Good hunting

Still some bunnies on Skilak Loop rd, you do need a bow cert card to hunt there. Swanson River rd in Sterling has some in spots.

Sweet! thanks guys! I'm headed for the map right now to look into the above mentioned areas. I'll post an update when I get a chance to get back out.
