STOS broadheads
«
on:

I just purchased some 160 grain STOS broadheads at the Kalamazoo show. I read alot about adding a tanto point to broadheads. Is this something that I need to do to these, or are the tips sturdy enough as is?
They do sharpen up nice with the KME broadhead sharpener!
Thanks,
Ray

Not necessary but I put it on mine. Just takes a couple strokes with a file.

I tanto mine, but you don't need to tanto them. However, you should knock off the needle point. Can go with a rounded tip, or chisel tip, anything but a needle point, which will tend to turn over and retard penetration on a bone hit. That's true of all needle points, by the way.

I put just the tiniest bevel on each edge of my Stos ("tanto" is Japanese, and I don't speak Japanese) at the tip to eliminate the fine point that might potentially curl. I have had them pass through rib bones coming and going. GREAT heads and my current favorite.

I recommend putting a tanto tip on any 2 blade broadhead that doesn't already come with one It doesn't have to be a major tip reduction just knock a little pit of that super pointy tip off and make it more triangular.

I also like the "tanto" type point over the needle. It doesn't need to be much but can make a big difference. Here's a tanto point on a Zwickey Delta. One of these days I'm gonna have to do a video of this.

I usually shoot delta's but tried some STOS this year and they sharpen up really nice on the KME. I didn't mess with the tip and my head had no issues zipping through the ribs and burying in the ground. I was really impressed with them and they are easier to sharpen than my deltas!

My stos came with the tanto style tip. They work.

Yep. The newer heads are tantoed. Great minds think alike.
