Lookin for an adjustable armguard
« on: January 29, 2013, 08:49:00 PM »
I'm tired of adjusting my arm guard every time I change to a different hunting coat. I have the kind with 3 buttons and you have to change the length (untie the knot) on each cord every time you add layers of clothing. What do you guys use that works better. Thanks

I've been making some that have three boothooks on one side and three lengths of bunji on the other.  I can adjust the looks by pulling cord thru the beads used to make the loop at the end of each length of bunji.

Someone used to make them and Robertsons sold them.  You might want to contact stykbow and see if she still has some.

I saw one on Black Widow's website that has 1 drawstring for adjustment. It's called a kisa armguard. I was thinking about trying one myself.

KISA or Howard Hill should work well.

Mine has a long leather lace and antler buttons on both sides. 3 each. Put on and lace around them then tuck the tail of the lace underneath. No adjustment necessary.

Steven Catts aka The Leathersmith. The Ultimate Traditional Arm guard. I have several and they work well.

I just got a KISA and the closure is definitely different, has no knot tying or elastic involved just a single pull on the leather thongs closes it. I am liking it already. I was most attracted to it because of the ventilation holes in the leather. I hope it will be cooler in summer

I got one from RMSGear out in CO. It's the style with 2 buttons and 2 elastic loops. I made sure it fit my bare arm well and I can stretch the loops over any of my wool sleeves (even layered) with no discomfort.

I use the Tarantula Flex Foam Sleeve Wrap Armguard. It's 8" long, has three elastic straps with the little black plastic buckles, and fits better than any armguard I've ever put on. It's not fancy, but for hunting, it's perfect! Lightweight, molds to your arm (no matter what you're wearing)from the day you take it out of the package, you can wash it, spray it w/scent elimination spray...and it's under twenty bucks. I plan to buy a couple more very soon just to put up and have. Now, it won't win you any oohs and ahhs at the range, but that's not why I wear an armguard (gotta admit though, would love to have a Scott Teaschner, they are absolute works of art!).

Wyoming Wildlife Artistry.

Easily adjustable, stays where you adjust it to, fabulous workmanship.  By far the best armguard I've ever had...and I've had more than a few over the years.

These are some great suggestions!  If you are interested in making your own I have a pattern I would share with you.

I use an antler button on each side and the elastic round cord to adjust it easily by tightening or loosening it with one hand.

There are many different kinds of leather you can choose from!

When it comes to keeping the coat sleeve out of the way when I am wearing my cold weather gear for hunting I found that the Team Realtree pull over sleeve works great.  But it all depends what style you like I reckon.

I attached 3 longer and thicker elastic cords (maybe 1/8" thick or so).  I then bent the speed lace clips closed a little.  The elastic cords now are attached as tight/loose as necessary while they press/snap into the speed lace clip.  Works slick.
