Feather Chopper?
«

I've been considering buying a feather chopper. My question is, can I get two, 4 1/2" feathers out of one full length feather, or should I go with a 4" chopper? Thanks.

you won't get 2 4" out of all of them. maybe 75%...if you get a good batch

The quality of commercial feathers these days is not what it used to be. Just not enough good quill to get 2 4.5" out of most of them. Some you will get 2 4" but not all of them. Then there's the whole issue with the base's on some of the brands. If you get 2 from one feather consider it a bonus but buy your stock figuring one chop per feather. YMMV.

You can get two 4" out of some, those I would 4 fletch, some are too short, so I chop 5" out of them. I do not shoot 4 fletch any more. Got tired of chopping 100 feather to save 4 bucks and buy most of mine cut now.
