I have never shot a CG but for those of you who really like them, have you ever looked at or shot the northern mist superior or baraga? When I was looking for that style of bow those were the two I settled and and I think they are pretty similar

I spoke with Jerry at Kzoo about his critter gitter and he told me that the extra laminates and doing the trap on the limbs was more labor intensive so that was the reason he dropped it from his line of bows

I had Jerry make me a Critter Gitter not quite two years ago.  Unfortunately, like many, I went with a one piece and then later wished I had gotten the jackknife option.  By then it was too late to order a new Critter Gitter since Jerry had quit making them.  I've talked with Jerry a few times about his discontinuing the Critter Gitter and also the Fireball, which was another great model.  Like it's been said above, those were the two hardest bows to make and Jerry simply didn't want to make them anymore.  You have to respect that.

While I would love to have another Critter Gitter and it is my favorite bow ever, I wouldn't want Jerry to make one if his heart wasn't in it.  Most likely, I'll suck it up and get a Bush Bow next.

Brianlocal3, I did look at the Northern Mist bows while up at K-Zoo.  They are very similiar, you are right.  Would be a good alternative for someone dead set on wanting a bow like the Critter Gitter.  That being said, in my hand the grip of the Baraga didn't feel quite as good as the Great Northern bows (locator grip).  But still, Steve makes a great bow and I don't think a guy could go wrong with either a Northern Mist or a Great Northern.

The jack-knife takedown system is great!  I have it on my critter gitter and my lil creep.  It is definitely worth the extra money.

Jameson, The GN locator is a little "chubby'er" than the baraga locator ya think? seems to fill the hand a little better. I like the GN straight grip, its bigger and more comfy than it looks.

Yes . . . Critter Gitter, one of my favorite bows, but I had to sell it.  Too heavy for me.  Wish I could order one.

Never owned one and wish I did.about a #50 one would be nice.
Named my first chocolate lab after the bow because it was a cool name.
The Kritter Getter, BEST dog I ever owned and had to leave her with mom when I moved out because she loved and spoiled her.

Jerry and Rick built me one in the spring of 2000.  I've hunted with it exclusively since that time.  That bow is a part of me.  Sometimes a bowhunter bonds with a particular bow and it becomes more than just a bow.  I've built a lot of my own bows and have even won bows from other renowned bowyers.  Even handling any of them feels the same as I suspect it would if I cheated on my wife.  I refinished mine a few years ago.  Don't know how many more seasons it has left as I'm pretty hard on it.  I've recently given thought to getting another as a back up.  I sure hate to see that it's not an option now.  I understand though and wish Jerry Brum the best with the business.  Who knows, maybe I'll get luckly.  I realisticly only need another 40 or so seasons before I hang things up...The straight grip is the best longbow grip I've ever put my hands around.

Jerry,
I loved your post. I too want to find that "bow" and although I have not had the opportunity to hunt it yet I feel my Berry Vixen is that bow. Every other bow I shoot makes me feel as if I'm cheating on it .
I for one would love to hear the specs of your CG and some pics if you got them

I would buy one tomorrow if he made them again.  64", 60# straight grip wi jackknife, limbs of black locust. I have an 1989 version w/o jackknife and the wife has a 56" "special" in osage.  I also had a 64" elm with locator (sold to friend) and a 62" osage jackknife (sold to my cousin, too short 4 me) 64" and jackknife is the ticket, love the locust. My CG does have the power lam. Looks like a hand ground addition.

Brian I'm not too good with internet pics but the bow is 62" and 51 pounds at my 25" draw.  It's flat grain hickory for the limbs and osage for the handle.  I had GN "roll" the grip at the top and bottom.  This little bump in the leather has always just felt right to me.  It is a workhorse of a bow.  Sometimes I swear it shoots itself at game.
