Nocks and grain

Ok another arrow building question.  I have been told you have to watch the grain of the arrow when putting the nocks on?  I really don't know what this means and was wondering if there was a topic that covered it.  I looked through some searches but thought you might be able to send me in the right direction a little quicker.

I think, that you should run your nock perpendicular to the grain, so the grain run parallel to the shelf of your bow. Does it make sense??

Straight grain against side plate. Also spine them against the straight grain. The rift and reed are the points on the non straight grain side. The points should face toward you in bottom and away on top. This is in case they break the splinters with be pointed away from bow arm/hand. Hope this helps.

Also, if you are using parallel shafting, put the nock on the end that gives you the points of the grain pointing towards the nock on the bottom (shelf side)or the finished arrow.  That way, if an arrow breaks on you you won't have a pointy-ended shaft streaking towards the back of your bow hand.
