What has happened to the heavy wood shafts ?
My Longbow likes 90/95 and my recurve likes 100's .
30 yrs ago it was not hard to find PO cedars now it is hard to find any woods over 70/75 and that is in all woods except hard wood . I dont like hard wood cause it is so tough to get straight and keep straight . I seem stuck with shooting aluminum . I just don't understand why the heavy shafts are not there .

Check with surewoods. They seem to have the heavy spines. Great guys to deal with too. Doug fir is the new cedar. Straight and tough!!

good POC is hard to get.  It seems there was a limited supply of trees and we already harvested the good ones.  you should be able to get heavy shafts from surewood, but they're doug fir.

2X what Gringol said. Surewood Shafts will have those heavier spines and they are easy to straighten and hold their shape well. Douglas fir makes a great shaft material!

Bruinbow, back in the 1970's when compounds started to catch on the go to arrow shaft was alum. About the same time Japan was flushed with cash and wanted the cedar for building materials so a lot got exported. Then we have that spotted owl issue, less old growth trees etc., etc.
I love cedar also but have like many others here moved on to Doug Fir. If weight is an issue this may be your only choice unless you can get some heavy Spruce. Good luck with your search.

Surewoods has 100 pound spine doug fir...shoot 'em everyday.

Snag would fix your problem pretty quick, Surewood are great shafts. I will be trying some Larch(Tamarack) shaft in a bit, they are supposed to be a bit heavier and tighter grain that DF shafts.... We'll see.
