Heavy Recurve shooters

It seems that the past threads I found about shooting heavy bows talk primarily about Hill style bows not recurves which I prefer.

I'm working on moving up to shooting a Holm-Made 60" River Runner 62#@28 which I draw 31", and already thinking what the next step will be.

So those of you who shoot +70#@28 recurves, what is your bow and arrow setup?  Of particular interest to me is the weight and grip of your riser, and why that is your preference.

I shoot an Old Howatt Hunter that's 78# at my draw length (27").  Those bows have a large high wrist grip whic I love.  My main bow is a 72#@27" Bear Custom T.D.  It has a narrow flat grip and I shoot it really well.  I guess I like the Bear the most because it keeps the arrow closer to my hand.  I shoot cedars, hickory and laminated birch from it all with equal results.

Have you weighed the bow at your draw length?  

I have a Doug Knight with two sets of limbs:
65# @ 28" and 75# @ 27"

Haven't shot them for a while and probably won't. I used to shoot 2219's.  

Grip size is about medium.

I have just about always shot bows over 60# and am currently shooting a 63# recurve. I also have strung my Black Widow PSAX Osage curve that's 73# at my 29" draw. It has the standard grip (I wish though it was he Asbel grip though) and at present I can't make up woods where I live so it's Grizzlystik carbons for me.

My two go-to bows are both Bear recurves.  One a mag takedown A riser with 69# limbs 59", the other a mid-'70s 58" 70# Grizzly.  Both of them shoot GT 3555 with 120 up front, equally well.

I shoot Nitro Stinger Golds off my 100# Java man recurve....general pistol grip and 175 grain heads....the grip is light weight....not sure of the wood, but not heavy wood...maybe walnut.

I shoot a Cascade Nighthawk recurve. 52" 70#@28" and I have a little over 29" draw. It has a phenolic riser. I shoot cedar arrows from Paul at Elite Arrows.

I don't know that I ever weighed one of the 2219's but I was only using a 135 grain broadhead.

I 'm shoot a Silvertip that's 71@28 and I draw 28. The grip is a med and I'm shooting heritage 350's that are cut at 29" with 200 grain head. Arrows are weighing right about 600 grains and going 200 fps. I love this setup, the heritage arrows are the toughest arrows I've shot. The arrows weigh enough to punch through a lot of stuff but still have some speed.

Iv got a 78# @my draw of 29" kt44 little suckling they have a ultra high grip and the riser is made of phenolic which is fairly heavy and a 80@29 humming bird kingfisher and its grip would be med I guse and the riser has a bit of weight to it.
As for arrows both are shooting 870grn arrow dynamic trads and 980grn abs grizzly stick safari and 800grn 3/8 origon shafts

My bows range from 63# to 72#. All have a medium grip, I especially like my Dale Dye and Bigfoot medium grips. The Bigfoot has the heavy "I-beam" riser  which I love and the Dye has a heavy, heavy, osage riser. I shoot 2219's at a 29 inch draw, 175 grain BH's. Arrow weight is around 640 grains.

Bartcanoe,  my cedars are 550gr. without heads, the laminated birch are 710 without heads and the hickory are 780 without heads.  I've had complete pass thrus on everything from bull elk, bear and mulies & whitetails with all.

I've been doing the workout you suggested, and I'm surprised how quickly, I've been able to get to 3x8 with 3 second hold.  Not to mention, the improving in form shooting my lighter bow.

I finally did, and it is 70#@31, so I think my next bow will be 75-80#@31.  Any recommendations of recurves that work at this weight and draw length?

I shoot a Bear A handle takedown that measures 72# at my 29 1/2" draw length. I shoot 340 (2317) Easton XX75 Gamegetters. I like the way they fly at 560 grains. The grip on the Bear is a medium. I have small hands but like the recurve grip much better than a long bow grip. It locates easily with the arrow right on top of my fist and since it spreads the force out over my thumb muscle and palm it doesn't hurt my left hand.
