GoLite Shangri-La 5 Tent feedback please
« on: February 20, 2013, 08:31:00 PM »
I know the Seek Outside and Kifaru are better tipi style  tents, but if you have owned the Shangri-la how has it held up. I have a hunting spot that we usually hike back to camp every night, but it is a good hike with rugged terrain and we are thinking we would rather just hike in and spend the night. At this time I do not want to spend the extra money for an $800- $1200 tent like the Seek Outside or Kifaru. Also, without using the tub style floor will the outside edges of the tent go all the way to the ground. By looking at pictures it seems that it will not and you would get a lot of airflow around the bottom. I would really appreciate your feedback on the Shangri-la.
Thanks,
Mark

No experience with the 5    but I have had a 4.  You can button it all the way down but being up in the air tends to cut down on the condensation.  The center pole is a little annoying at times, and I wished it was a touch taller so that you could stand up.  Other then that I really liked the little shelter for the price.

I have an older model Shangra- La 3 I think. I have only used it for early Sept. Elk hunts so weather hasn't been much of a issue. I have used it for about the last 5-6 years and it has held up extremely well. You definitely can't go wrong for the money, it withstood some pretty stout winds and rain last fall in the Rockies! Hope this helps!

I have a Shangrila 5 as does a hunting buddy. They are great tents for the money. I've stayed in mine in some nasty weather and it did great. You can adjust the fly all the way to the ground. It's tall enough for me to stand up in the center. I'm 5'9". Definetly get the 5. A lot more room and taller than the 3. I've had several friends order one after seeing mine. Get an extra set if stakes to guy it out properly. If you are In really loose sandy soil, you will need longer stakes to avoid them pulling out in the wind.
