Hi everyone,
I am about to purchase a Damon Howatt Hunter and I have a few choices out there, I was wondering what y'all think is better the newer ones like from the 80's and newer or the older ones like the 60's or 70's...
Which is best and why
Thank you all...

I like Damon Howatt bows but I like a Hunter model 1996 or newer.I believe that is when you can use FF type strings.I have 8190 with bow hush and hush puppies on my 2008 Hunter and it shoots great, fast and quiet.I've had older Hunters, they are great shooting bows also but required a dacron string.I'm just not a fan of dacron strings. And it is not for any speed or performance increase, the bow just feels more solid and not springy like with a dacron string.JMO

Thanks, JRY309, I never thought about the FF type strings as having any advantage except a few FPS.

The older hunters have a fairly high grip, which I favor over the newer ones which, for the ones I've seen, have real low grips. I also like the wood used in the risers in the older bows. But you'll have to decide what you like!

I never shot a newer one but have a weakness for the early 60s Ne Plus Ultra Hunters and Montereys. Better is a subjective term but these era bows were the most beautiful as far as I'm concerned.

Luv them Howatt Hunters!
Got a 2007 Hunter now with a Rick B. Ultra Cam string on it, and it shoots as good or better'n most recurve's I've shot.
The riser has a pretty low wrist grip. I like it more than the high wrist grip of the 83 model I had.
You won't go wrong with any of the Howatt Hunter bows. It's had the same limb profile for the past 50 years. (1963)

I think mine is an older Hunter, its not FF. I got it in a trade. I sanded it down, put some black paint back on the limbs and cleared it. Shoots really good. I cant seem to quite it down but, is a very smooth drawing bow.

I have a Howatt Hunter I picked up new in, about, '98-99. I love it and will never get rid of it. Haven't shot the newer ones, but I'm sure they're quality bows.

My personal choice would be a rosewood hunter from the 60's and early 70's.
