Board Bow Beginings
« on: August 23, 2007, 01:37:00 PM »
Tinkering in my garage last night to fix a car part I noticed a piece of rough sawn lumber hiding in a corner I forgot I had.  Time to play!  So I got out the electric hand planer to clean all the sides and see just what I had.  Looks to be maple to me and my friend who runs a muzzleloading stock making shop.  I reread parts of a couple books last night and then laid out dimensions on the back.  Took it to the band saw this morning to get the project started.  It's been many years, 15 +, since I tried this and am looking forward to giving it another go.  I did notice that even though this board has been around a number of years the thin strips removed from the board seems not to have the spring qualities I hoped it would.  Maybe too moist or not the right kind of wood.  But, it is a start and if anything I will hang it on the wall.

Side note: My buddie just checked with his moisture meter and it reads 8%.  That shouldn't be an issue.
