KME knife sharpening stand?
« on: March 04, 2013, 06:39:00 AM »
I've decided to order a KME knife sharpening system and was debating as to whether to order the stand to go with it. Is it worth the extra bucks or is it something that can easily be made in a few minutes from materals at home. Thanks in advance! Jon

Jon,

Only about half of our customers even use the base. That's why it's an accessory. I encourage anyone who wants to (and can do it) to make their own. Ours is very nice solid cherry with a screw-in aluminum post but it doesn't work any better than a 6x6 block of plywood with a 1/2" dowel glued in the center.

Personally, I never use the base. I just hold the sharpener in one hand and the stone in the other and sharpen away. Sometimes I sharpen a knife while laying on my back watching TV. (don't try that till you've sharpened about 100 knives though).  :readit:   Thanks!

Ron

I just got the KME and spent about 35 minutes on the phone with Ron, He helped me sharpen both a knife and a Grizzly.
I did get the base and use it... It just makes it even easier when changing stones you don’t have to put the knife down its stays right there
Hopefully you will see me as a better person today than I was yesterday..

Robert, did you buy the sharpening system with the arkansas stone or the one with the diamond stones? I'm not the best sharpener on the block! Jon

Jon,
After talking to Ron, He suggested all I needed was the Arkansas stones and one Diamond stone.

I have said it before I was not able to sharpen a stick now I am doing all my knives and my grizzly’s.  I couldn’t be happier

I would really suggest you get the stand, it makes is so much easier to use. You wont have to set the knife down to change the stones. big plus in my opinion
Hopefully you will see me as a better person today than I was yesterday..
