Carp Shoot "Ohio"
« on: March 04, 2013, 04:59:00 PM »
Does anyone know of anyone hosting a Carp Shoot in Ohio?
-or-
Would anyone like to try to set up a gathering this late Spring/early Summer?

I live in Central Ohio, and my son and I do pretty well at Kokosing Reservoir, and Knox Lake.

Never been bowfishing, but I hear it is a good time! I haven't heard of any trad bowfishing get togethers. Sounds like you might unintentionally be starting one!

I hear that Buckeye Lake has one in June sometime. This was told to me a couple of years ago, so I do not know if it even exists anymore.

Would love to have a gathering to meet some of you.

Never have heard of one in Ohio, BUT,,,,I'm game!   :jumper:
Just started bow-fishing 2 summers ago...really got hooked last year to the point I wasn't doing any line/pole fishing.     Mostly wading shallow water in Wills Creek here in Coshocton, but also have a 14' jon boat......
might have to think about this .....

I'd be willing to look into camping at Kokosing Camp; 46 sites, shower house, flushing toilets. Operated by the Muskingum Watershed Conservatory District on 185ac. Kokosing Reservior.

Could look into some t-shirt ideas: Great Ohio Carp Shoot (GOCH) kinda like GORH (Great Ohio Rabbit Hunt0, and GOSH Great Ohio Squirrel Hunt.
*Donated Raffle items, Donated Door Prizes.*Pick a cause to donate funds to? *Look into donating Carp to local hog farms (Hate to waste them, and my gardens not big enough for all that my be gotten). Awards: Bigggest,Most Team/Individual.I'm open for ideas, suggestions and comments.

By the way my son and I either wade, or play "Karate Kid" in a canoe.

You might check out ohioboysoutdoors.com or ohiogamefishing.com. I know someone had tournaments in the past at Buckeye Lake. Hit it right and you'll see lots of fish in the pads and docks and some big pigs.

I'm not far from the east-central, Indiana/Ohio line. Might be something I could do. It's alot of fun and I couldn't do any the last couple of summers as the reservoir I like to go to didn't flood the area. They didn't close the dam this last winter so I think the carp shooting will be better this summer but it always fun to go somewhere new.

Your right about just doing it! I've been enjoying bowfishing for Carp/Frogs before
I ever knew there were special arrows and points.......

I've had a t-shirt designed for years, just waiting for the chance to get it made.(More ordered----cheaper they are.)

I think I'll rent a camp site, and invite anyone who can make it. We can go fish and see who gets the biggest and most, have a cook out, swap stories, and shoot at some bull frog targets.(I put them on top of aireal disks and float them in the water)

I've been a loner for years when it comes to hunting/fishing (except family). However, as I get older and have a son who enjoys our sport. I have see how well people treat us when we go to shoots (Trad archers are a different breed of individuals), I have a beter understanding of the importance of friendships.

I've also been kicking around the idea of starting a Christian Bowhunters of America Chapter in Central Ohio.

I'll keep you posted if your interested.....

I have shoot a couple out of the Kokosing River while fishing and canoeing.

What camp ground are you talking about staying at? I'm familar with Kamp and Kanoe on 36 but I'm not sure of the campground you are talking about. Sounds like this would be a fun time. I fish the Kokosing river a bunch and always get shots but don't always connect. Still getting that "aim low" thing down.
