How much stacking is common?

Hey all, I was just wondering. My bow is marked 54 at 28 but I pull a bit over 29. It felt a bit heavier than my older 55 but it'a very smooth so I never bothered to check. Anyway I was down at the club talking to one of the old hands and we measured it to my exact draw and it came up on the scale at 62. That seems like a fair bit right?  Maybe my draw was a bit longer than I thought but that's 8 pounds over 1.5 inches...
I mean don't get me wrong, it doesn't matter since it blasts out 580gr arrows like they're made of paper. I'm interested is all

How long is the bow, and is it a longbow or recurve?

8 pounds over 1.5" would be some serious stacking, but it is just as likely that the scale was off.

60 inch recurve. Scale was definitely accurate maybe I just had a longer draw than I thought. (we marked the arrow at anchor didn't bother to measure it) I should check and see if maybe it was off a smidge at 38 I guess.

Did you check the weight @ 28" also?

It's possible the bow could be mismarked.

Did you mesure it at 28" to check if it's marked correctly? Then compare to your 29" draw?

Haha yep, last two answers were the exact conclusion I just came to, I'll check it out next time when I'm down there. Thanks for the advice.

Yep.  It's probably also heavier than 54#@28.  Bow is probably mismarked.  that's not un common either.  8# in an inch is like hitting a wall.

It has a lot to do with bow design, even some longer bows stack bad. Check out a Bear Kodiak Mag for example, they really start to stack at 28"s and 1.5"s may get ya 8# increase. I have had bows that once ya hit 28"s they go to 4#s an inch after that. Shawn

What Shawn said, boils down to bow design. I draw 30" so I detect it more than a guy pulling 28" on certain bows. Good design equals a smooth draw force curve.

Yeah, I think it might just be marked wrong to be honest. The bow is a very good one from a great bowyer and doesn't feel at all like it's stacking on almost ten pounds at anchor, it's very smooth draw all the way through.

Oh well, guess it's a good way to harden myself up and not have people look at the weight and think I'm just trying to be a macho man, haha.
