Black Canyon "Special Turkey Ops" Bow
« on: March 09, 2013, 04:20:00 PM »
I've found that it can be an easy thing for a turkey to 'bust' me even when I'm in a blind.  Last year, I'm certain the bocote limbs on my bow were detected by a tom at about 8 yards.  It really could have been something else, but don't we all look for the perfect excuse to buy a new bow???  ...I decided last spring that I needed (...really ?!) a 'Dark' bow for hunting in the blind...and a shorter one too.  So, this year, I'm taking my new Black Canyon "Special Turkey Ops" bow with me to Nebraska.           :saywhat:

Yup, Mike Hayes @ Black Canyon Bows is building me a completely 'dark' bow....dark grey diamondwood, black glass limbs and purpleheart contrasting wood.  About all the wood is glued and Mike is about to start shaping the limbs and riser...I should have it in my hands in about 10-days.

Aha!...got it now.  It doesn't look like much at this point, but I can already tell its going to be a beauty!!  Mike said that this is a first for him with the Purpleheart / Grey Diamondwood combination.  Finished it'll be 60" and 52# @ 29" draw.  There will be another layer of Purple under the lamination on the back of the bow and the tips will have it too.  3-piece bow...all the metal work will be black - no brass colors.

There's not enough of Mikes bows on this site. Yours sounds like a beauty. Can't wait to see the pics. I'm still a long way out for mine. Seeing pics will ease the pain. Ill be sitting close to this thread.

Al,

That looks great. I think one of the most unique he has done. Cant wait to see the finished product.

I'm having him make a 1pc with Ipe riser and dirty boo limbs, and a special inlay item. It will be 64" and 65-70# @ 28".
With the long wait, I may dream something else up different, but for now, this is what Id like. Mikes bows are real sweet.
