Stump shootin

I have a question,   Can you stump shoot on public land as long as you have no broadheads or any kind of tip that would harvest game ?    Or is a blunt considered a game head. I want to do some stump shooting to get back into yardage estimating.  But I don't have access to any private land.  I am in west Tennessee by the way.

On some public land in Texas you can take any heads you want. To hunt no season critters or for stumppin. Might look into or call about public land around you.

Laws vary from state to state.

I know with Virginia, CPO's will be very skeptical of it if you are on public land out side of any game season.

I would call a TWRA officer and ask.

Never question a man's choice in bows or the quality of an animal he kills.  He is the only one who has to be satisfied with either of those choices.

Best to check in with your wildlife division, see what they say. Here we have critters that can be hunted all year round so as long as you have a small game license your covered.

In NY you can only carry a bow on public land for hunting. Something has to be in season even if you want to just stump shot. Luckily there is always something in season with just a few gaps...even frog hunting is aloud with bow from June to Sept I believe. Those pesky frog are always jumping off stumps just before my arrow gets there!

In Michigan you must have a valid hunting license in your possession, when shooting on any public land where game is present.

Pete A, You can hunt porcupines, their unprotected. In NY, as long as your not shooting anything out of season, I don't think you would have a problem. I have state land all around my place and guys shoot their guns at targets all the time. If thats ok then why wouldn't target shooting with a bow be ok.Even if that target is a stump or dirt mound ect.The law is there to protect the game, not to deny your access and recreational use of the land. You can hunt unprotected wildlife at any time. You are required to have a small game licence however. Sorry about the speel, just thought you should know.
