String Follow Two Tracks Echo
« on: March 24, 2013, 10:18:00 AM »
I wanted to share with everyone an "Echo" by Two Tracks craftsman/wood magician Chuck Deshler.
I posted in the "Product Review" section with more info and pictures but here is a little here for you.
It follows the string by just the perfect amount to make it a joy to shoot.  Smooth through the draw to anchor and silent at the loose.  A real joy.

Now that is a handsome piece of work!!  I read years ago that Walnut was one of the best all around limb materials and seems to be Chuck's signature.

"ECHO" is fitting. The design and attention to detail indeed echos excellence in tradition.

I shot one of Chuck's bows last Fall that could have been a mirror image to your bow Ricker.

All you said here and in your review is dead on - exactly my experience.

Thanks for all the responses fellas.  You're right Macatawa, Walnut was suggested to me back in the 80's by a well respected bowyer, he said it was one of the biggest mysteries to him why more builders did not use it as a mainstay core material. It is light as a feather and very springy, and excels under glass. I tried it and have come to believe what he shared with me to be accurate.  I love the stuff.

I'd like to see that flat bow of yours Tree Dancer, sounds interesting.

Thanks for showing us!

I really like the looks of the echo, I've been dying to try one out! Could anyone compare it to Craig's bows from HHA? I've been shooting a big Five for a while, and I like it, but I have to admit it kinda leaves something to be desired.

Thank you for the props guys,
Tony, the bow you shot at the GLLI was the twin to Ricks. He has a special love for the Narra wood and so he was granted special favor with this wonderful piece. Rick was a big encouragement and test shooter for me during the prototyping stages and I value his opinion when it comes to the American longbow. I sought out many of the American Longbow shooters that I know to give input on my new design and they all provided me with good intel. That list will include yourself. Thank you.
Matt, the limbs on Ricks bow are all walnut, I just used some laminations with different cuts/shades to get the unique look I like to put into my work. I speak about the Walnut a little bit on my website under the Echo heading, I really like it and comtinue to get some great feedback from guys that shoot it in my bows.

Thanks again guys,

I own a Big Five and have shot one of Chuck's LH Echos. My Big Five is a straight grip and the Echo is a locator. Both grips are too small for my hand but neither were made for me. I have found I prefer the straight grip. Chuck's shot very well and if I shot it exclusively for a while I'm sure I could shoot it as well as my Big Five. The Echo's finish was excellent and the detail to the lines and the absence of sanding marks show  Chuck's attention to detail. Both the Echo I shot and B5 I own are string follow, which I find I'm liking more and more. Both are very quiet.
