Ok, so I finally have my hands on this new bow I picked up for the garage sale price. It has been determined that it is not a Chastain, not a Talltines, and upon initial consultation with Dave W., not a Silvertip. However, I was using pics from the seller, not my own. I have since taken many more high quality pics which show the riser from different angles and full views of the bow.
The bow is definitely not "homemade", the fit and finish is awesome, definitely professional grade, if it was "homemade", the person was an accomplished bowyer. The stippling on the grip does not match up with the quality of work on the rest of the bow, that and the grip looking like it had been reshaped indicate an owner did it after the fact.
Gosh, I still think it might be a Silvertip, and I sent the new pics to Dave for one more look. I guess I'm just wishful, but turns out the riser has a ghost of some script that resembles the location and script style on a Silvertip (see pics) If it really isn't, I feel there's a really strong resemblance and/or someone made a nice copy.
Anyway, the riser is 19.5" peak to peak by my measurement. The riser is rosewood dymondwood, nice heft. The glue lines and lams are all supertight and the tips are very well crafted. The bow flat out SCREAMS an arrow down range! WOW! What a shooter. 71# @ 31, 62", but it draws extremely smooth...ZERO stack of any kind, and it almost feels like it has a kind of rollover in the middle of the draw. It is SWEET. Gonna be a hog killing MACHINE!
