Older bows-lighter arrows?
« on: April 08, 2013, 08:16:00 PM »
Got a question concerning the arrow I am currently using for 3-D shoots out of a 1960 Grizzly.

My 3-D arrows weigh in @ 490 grains, and they fly great……even out to 80 yards.

The bad part is that even though I have a bow scale hanging here and a draw length arrow, I never measured the actual draw weight of this bow…..until today.

The bow says it is 48# @ 28", and I figured I was drawing it to 50# @ my 28 3/4" draw length…..

Well, I put several bows on the scale today, and this one is actually pulling 53# @ 28", and 55# @ 28 3/4", for 8.9 grains per lb.

The bow is quiet, and seems to be fine with these arrows, but I sure would hate to harm this old gal.

What do you guys think about using an 8.9gpi arrow out of this setup?

Thanks…….  :)

No worries at all. I have been shooting 8.5 grain per pound out of 99% of my bows even the oldies! Shawn

Well, went to a 3-D on saturday, and when our group came out of the timber there were about 10 guys launching arrows across a field at a wolf target. We could not pass up the opportunity to look silly trying that shot.   :biglaugh:

Surprisingly, once we launched 8-10 arrows to get the range, two of us were hitting that wolf 2 out of every 5 arrow volley, and 3 out of five a few times.

Big fun!   :D
