removing fletch wrap on carbon arrows
« on: May 02, 2013, 07:29:00 PM »
Is there an easy way to remove fletching wrap on carbon arrows?  I tried steam, then placing in boiling water.  Nope.  Scraping with dull knife is tedious and hard to not scrape finish.  There must be a better way.  Thanks.  Scott

I use a heat gun. I use the low temp otherwise it melts the nocks, do not ask me how I know.

I have done it with a regular hair drier.

I boil some water and let the steam do its work. Works great!

I know Scott. I feel you're pain. God bless.

Use a hand held hair dryer on the hottest setting. It will turn the wrap into a rubbery mess and you can peel it right off. The heat is not as hot as a heat gun so no worry about damage to the shaft. WORKS LIKE A CHARM.

WD-40, avoid strong solvents that might cut the finish.

The first time I tried sticking them in boiling water I was dissappointed with the results. Didn't seem to do much, still had to scrape. The next time I tried it, I put the shafts in the water before it started to boil and left them in a while ( several minutes)and they pulled right off.

Yep, hair dryer on high/hot setting works well.

Thanks so much for the posts.  I figured someone must know the answer.  I called 3 rivers and the person there did not know other than scraping with a knife, and I already tried that.
