I usually look around old dead trees and old apple trees are a good spot. I have seen them just pop up in paths and spots in the woods without much rim or reason, but I think there are probably some things others can share to help. I have found large patches in the past, but none for a long time like that so I figure I am not in the hot spots.
What weather conditions are best for searching? Temps day and night? Time after a rain?
What sun exposure amount? Hill side orientations, low lands, partial sun?
I have wondered how often to look and if I should let them grow a few days when I find them for them to get larger. I have heard they can grow over night and only get just so big depended on the mushroom, but I am not sure. They can pop up over night and dry up fast if it is dry and hot. I just pick them when I find them, but could wait a day or so if they will get larger.
