Ok, so I have tried a bajillion bows this year via the classifieds on all 3 major forums.  All makes, recurves, longbows, all different weights.  I thankfully ended up with my sweetheart, a bow I just can't sell, a lovely 66" Leon Stewart Slammer takedown/ cocobolo diamondwood with osage/bocote accent riser, curly maple core limbs, quartersawn bubinga under clear glass.  A real looker.  The bow just does it all right.  It is the one bow I kept comparing all the other bows to, and at a certain point recently I realized nothing else shot as good for me and probably never will.

SO...

This past week I dropped the hammer and called Leon to order a second set of limbs for my baby.  The limbs are 90% of the bow, so to me it's my first custom.  The riser is getting sent in when he's ready for custom limb fitment and also to get a brand new grip and sideplate.

I'm getting a set to make a 68" bow, 55@28.

I'm a firefighter, so I wanted to do something wild and just for me.

Olive ash burl back, gently stained red-brown to complement the cocobolo diamondwood riser, and mimic flames

Quilted maple belly, stained southern pecan, also to mimic flames

African sheep horn tips

I played with photobucket edits a little bit, and here's kinda what it should end up looking like theoretically:

Olive ash burl back/ stained red-brown

Quilted maple belly/ stained southern pecan

Deposit has been paid.  The wait is gonna be agonizing.  3-4 months!  But I know that Leon is going to deliver me something that will knock my socks off.  I can't wait to get them and put the bow together.  3-4 months!!  How do you guys do it???

Never question a man's choice in bows or the quality of an animal he kills.  He is the only one who has to be satisfied with either of those choices.

LOL, Ken my order includes my last name on the limbs, I figured that way I HAVE to keep em, haha.

In all reality LS really is THE bow for me.  As of late I even posted my current stable in my sig just to hold myself accountable and quit the classifieds for a change and just shoot the bow that I KNOW works for me.  I even tried ILF and just sold off all the limbs and riser.  ILF was fun but I need a break, too fiddly for a hunter IMHO.  Overkill.  I'm not trying to get super groups at 90m.  ILF and all other bows aside, this Slammer still shoots better for me.  To satisfy my D-bow craving and keep a lighter weight bow around I also picked up a pristine 21st Century Lonestar that also shoots awesome, probably due to the 70" length, carbon, and light weight.  Anyway, with the Slammer, a month ago I tried shooting at a Coke can at 20 yds, just to see how small a target I could hit and I shoot using the instinctive/intuitive/whatever you wanna call it method, and this was the only bow where I could hit the Coke can pretty consistently.  Current limbs are 66" 53@28 and I love em.  I figure the new 68"/55's ought to feel very similar, just longer.  I love a long longbow and hunt from the ground so I don't mind it.

The best part is I got to order it just how I wanted, put some of ME in it.

I can not wait for these limbs and refurbished riser.  Why can't it be 3 weeks??!?!?

I have a 55# Slammer 3 pc. I really it. Leon lives about 45 minutes from me. I have taken the bow back to be refinished. He does a fantastic job!

Cool!  Yeah, I know we all can get real subjective about different bows, but I tell you with certainty I can get real objective about my Slammer and say with confidence that it is extremely smooth, very fast, very stable, and VERY forgiving.  The perfect combo and why it won out for me in the long run.

My 58" Slammer Special shoots where I look every time. It is also fast and smooth on par with a recurve of the same weight.
Leon is defiantly a master Boyer and artist.

Leon is a great guy to deal with also. I have a Slammer Special and its hard to understand how I could love a piece of wood as much as I do. I am not a good shot and do not do the bow justice... but I keep workin at it.
I know you will be pleased.
