Who's shooting SBD string on Hill style
« on: May 26, 2013, 08:47:00 PM »
Was wondering how a SBD string would perform on a Hill style Bow. Would like to get some input from my fellow TG'ers. So who's shooting them and how many strands do you like? How much and what kind of difference did it make for your bow? Thanks for any response.

I have SBD 8's on my Northern Mist Classic and Shelton.

The difference in sound and cast is noticeable.  Wouldn't dream of changing back.

I have B-50,Endless loop FF and padded loop skinny FF strings on my Hill style bows. My favorite is a Skinny 9 strand Ultra Cam padded loop string. It's on a 63# bow. VERY quiet,no hand shock or buzz after the shot and a little faster than a dacron string. Most of my bows are braced right at or under 6" and I've had no problems using FF.

I have put them on two Hills (63# @ 29" Wesley Special, Big 5 53# @ 28"). I used 10 strands. I like them, but I also think I need string silencers when using them on Hills. When using B-50 I go without. It does seem that I can bump up a bit in spine, but not too much. I guess on the Hill styles, I would rather stick to B-50, just personal preference. I found I like using them on all of my other bows, and it seems to make them quieter (I know, it contradicts my earlier statement).

I make my own strings and shoot a padded loop 6 strand 450+ on my Hill with some whoolie wisps.I find it is quieter then when I had B50 on it.I'm not a fan of dacron, makes the bow feel springy to me.

I just put a SBD on my Mohawk Sparrowhawk yesterday actually....shoots great.  it is an 8 strand with padded loops and built up serving area.

It was twangy sounding installed naked...but a set of catwhiskers and she is quiet now....my arrows are 640-720 so weight of arrow is not a problem for this 50# bow.

If I win the auctions for St Judes I will have two more soon.  :)

I use one on my Pete George longbow. I will say it adds some cast to my heavy 2020alum. arrows.

As of right I have one on my Bob Lee and one on the longbow Alex built me. I do want to try one on my Hill. I can't see were you would go wrong with one they are awesome strings.

B50 fan here....I like ‘em naked and quiet.  I become accustomed to a big beefy string.

Knawbone, I have an 8 strand SBD string for a 66" bow you can have if you'd like?  PM me your address and I'll send it to you.  I recently picked up a used bow that came with it but I prefer B-50.

this was my first from SBD...always shot either B50 on most bows or D97 on Robertson and Habu.  I like a thicker feel in my strings but so far so good....  Like I said, it made my longbow a little twangy on the shot naked...but a set of catwhiskers 9 inched down string on each end and very quiet now.
