Self nock jig?

So as some of you know I've been planning a dozen or two woodies with self nocks. I've watched a couple of videos and have been practicing on dowel rods. I've gotten to the point that I'm feeling pretty good about my technique, but still end up with one here and there that's not quite as straight as I'd like. Anyway was just wondering if anyone has ever seen or has the means to build a small steel cap with 11/32" ID with a slot cut in it that could be taped in place while making initial cut. I know it's kinda cheating, but seems it would make it much easier to make all of the nocks closer to the same. I know plastic nock alignment can make a difference in the way otherwise matched arrows shoot, so why not get the self nocks as close to perfect as possible. Maybe I'm just being overly analytical, but I figure just because I'm shooting primitive doesn't mean I can't try to find every possible advantage.

Here is one i made for 11/32. It has deep slots of you want to reinforce your nocks. The slots are 1/8" and i use a round carbide blade for a hack saw. I did purchase one but it was aluminum and it did not hold up. PM me if you have any questions.

Pretty nice jig Mike , we are working on one similar to that to upgrade the Nifty Nocker tool and allow more that 1 shaft at a time.

For self nocks I make one bandsaw cut then open it up with a thin bladed knife and emory cloth folded over and over again until the throat is right for the string. I like mine loose!

I bought one too and the grooves got wider over time. it needs to be made out of something stronger, but also try to keep the price down.

3 hacksaw blades taped together also works.

Im going to try the hacksaw blades on my next set of arrows. My jig is A2 heat treated to 60RC but the carbide still cuts it pretty easily.

You all might consider this cheating, but I use a router bit and a router table.  Slick, accurate and the same each time.  Then I dress it up with some light file work.

Bamboo Arrow Build-A-Long

Self-Nocks:

   

First I drill a 7/64" hole 3/8" from the back of the arrow at the nock end (Skinny end) on the same side I marked the stiff spot on the arrow.

   

Then using a razor blade I cut into the hole I just drilled.

   

Do the other side and pop out the center.

   

Get a piece of 80gr sandpaper and fold it in half twice so it is 4 layers thick.  Use this to clean up the nock.

   

All cleaned up.

Now take a piece of 220gr sandpaper and place in over the sharp edge of a piece material.  Use the edge of the sandpaper to creat an angle at the end of the nock.

 

   

We have to wrap the Self-Nocks to prevent them from splitting.  I'm using Artificial Sinew.  Any thread will work.

   

I start by gluing my Sinew down with a little dab of Super Glue.

   

Then I just wrap down the arrow about 1/2" and secure the Sinew again with a little Super Glue.  Try and get this nice and tight.

   

Cut off the extra and coat the whole thing in clear nail polish or Super Glue.  You will also want to saturate the inside of the nock with Super Glue to add strength.

   

   

Nocks are all finished up!
