50lb R/D longbow and 2018 arrows, good match?
« on: June 07, 2013, 05:16:00 PM »
I have a new Stewart Slammer 50 @ 28, want to try a heavy arrow (12gp). My draw is 28" and I have 150grn / 175grn broadheads. Is a 2018 arrow a good starting point?

Seems a little heavy to me but YMMV. By all means shoot what works for you.

2016 is what runs through the 55# Slammer that lives here. 2018's don't come out until 60#+ for me but its not a one size fits all world.

Great bows for sure!

For my son's 60 pound Robertson, 2018s shoot with less than 160 total weight up front, when his arrows are cut to 28.5".  2020s are a bit better for him.  I used 27" bop with 200 grains total up front on 2018s out of my 64@26" Schulz longbow.  I would think that with a 160 grain broadhead on a long adapter(38 grains) they would shoot if they were 29" or less.  But, if your release is softer or you lose a bit of draw before the string leaves your finger tips a 2016 may be better.

for what it's worth, i just picked up a slammer this spring which is a 64" 52# at 28" bow and i tried a set of my easton trad only carbon 400's cut to 29 1/2" with 175gr points and they fly like lasers! you may be looking at aluminums but these are worth some consideration. i also have the 5gr. weight tubes in them so they hit really hard.
bye the way, congrats on the bow! you'll love leon's craftsmanship.
