H.I.T. inserts vs. Predator II outserts
« on: June 17, 2013, 07:05:00 PM »
Can't decide which to use...I picked up some of the outserts on clearance at one of the big box outdoor stores thinking I might use them in my new Axis Traditional 400 shafts. They fit like they were made for them and I thought they might add even more toughness to a pretty tough shaft. I have some of the screw in weights I can add to them, so they'll weigh basically the same as the 75 grain hit inserts. Thing is, I really like the idea behind the H.I.T inserts and the only time the others would be of real benefit (other than ease of removal for tuning) is if I don't hit my intended target. So what say you? Any thoughts, pluses or minuses I haven't thought of?

i shoot the beman mfx 400s with the hit insert and the collars they make to go over the shaft depending on the field point you use you'll bend the threaded part of the field point before you damage the shaft

I know when I shot Axis "back in the day" from my wheelie, they were darn near indestructible. That was before the nano tube version or whatever it is they're calling it now. Thought about the carbon collars for one or both ends. Thanks for your reply kwc. Anyone else?

I wouldn't switch from the HIT inserts and a short aluminum collar. I don't think I have broken one except those that have snapped off in an animal.  And I stump shoot all year round.

That's what I think I wanted to hear. Got out just a few minutes ago and shot a few since I wrapped and refletched them...flying like darts  :)
Still need to bareshaft to make sure, but with the noticeable lack of "wiggle" that they had before with factory fletch, I'm hoping it's gonna be a short process.
