Serving Question
« on: June 27, 2013, 12:10:00 PM »
If it matters, I build D97 12 strand padded loop Flemish twist strings. I have been using .025 62xs for my center serving, and am quite satisfied with it, but I read that many of you use Halo.

For those of you that have used both, which do you prefer, and why?

Depends on which material you are making the 12 strands with. They are a lot of different diameters with all the different low stretch string materials.I can say that 6 strands of 450+ is about the same as 8 strand D97,10 strand 8125 and 12 strand 8190 as they are very close in the same diameter.I use and like both servings, just depends on how many strands and which material I'm making.Which ever on I'm using I like to get about a .108 to .110 finished diameter at the serving. If I making a 12 strand D97,.024 Halo gives me the nock fit I want.A 8 strand D97 I use 1D serving .019 and then .021 62XS just where my fingers are gives me about the same nock fit.No real preference just using what I have on hand,if I need a .024 serving I have Halo .024 and if I need a .021 serving I have 62XS.I may try .021 Halo when my 62XS runs out.Back a few years ago Halo came in .019 and .024 diameters, now in comes in a few more diameters like .021 and .015.No. 62 came in .018,.021 and .025 diameters.I like both and both are good servings.I like to serve to fit my nocks, thats why I have and use a few different diameter servings.I like to play around with different strings.

Thanks, I edited my OP to include more specifics.

My question was more geared toward the materials themselves. Is one better than the other, and why?
