Another Praise for my JD Berry Longbow
« on: June 28, 2013, 09:48:00 AM »
I recently purchased another bow off the classified... one of the higher end, highly recommended 3 piece R/D longbows.  Well what can I say, my plain JR Berry Vixen flat out shoots this bow hands down.   There is no comparison.  The JD Berry is quicker, as quiet and just thumps the target much harder.  I'll admit the newer bow (which is highly R/D and has a skinny string on it) is 4 pounds less draw (figured the skinny string about nullifies some of the added draw weight)  and it has a great grip and shoots good..... it simply cannot perform as well as my Vixen.  I don't know what James is doing but these flat limbed American Longbows he is turning out sure do spit a heavy arrow out pretty quick.

Dave,
I could not agree with you sentiments any more.  My Berrys are impressive to say the least.  From a performance standpoint  they do not act like a straightlimbed bow at all. The MS out shoots my mild d/r bows and it hangs with the aggressive ones I have shot next too.  Couple that with the point ability and feel with zero Handshock or other negative side effects often associated with "hill" style bows.

I have said it a lot here, but James must have a magic fairy at the shop sprinkling his bows, because they just defy all preconceived notions.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had seen or experienced this.

Brianlocal3 quote "I'm glad I'm not the only one who had seen or experienced this."

I know this to be true from the memories I have of shooting JD"s personal Vixen and Morningstar.

Now if I can just hold onto those fond memories until mine arrive..lol

JD told me today that he ended up selling his personal Vixen to someone.. whoever you are.. your bow is infected... Mudd MoJo...lol

I have an old serpentine bow (too heavy to shoot too often now) that still amazes me and blows away most longbows I have shot.  James just knows how to get every drop of performance out of his bows.  My next and probably my last longbow is going to be his Apollo or Tiapan.

I had a Serpentine also. It was my favorite R/D longbow that I have owned or shot. I've got to try a Vixen one day.
