Tall Tines/Real world speeds?

I'm fixing to buy a new bow and I should be placing it on order this week.  Speed is not the biggest factor, but it is at least to me, important.  I've got my search narrowed down to two bows and Tall Tines is one of them.  Could some of you guys post up some real world speeds along with the specs (draw weight, draw length, arrow weight)

I appreciate any and all help.

Most all are values reported by Blacky and using a 5 fps reduction to account for finger release average.

Thats all well and good but I am wanting Tall Tines speeds.

I think the point is most bows are pretty close to each other. So the Tall Tines will likely fall right in the range of the bows above.

I have a TT longbow and never found the need to run it thru for a crono for speed.  I shoot a 13 GPP arrow and it is smoking coming out of the bow.

Until an arrow reaches the speed of sound, the animal will always hear the sound.  That is the reason I shoot a heavy arrow.  It quiets the bow and virtually eliminates any hand shock, but that more than likely is the bows design as well.  After buying my TT, I sold all my other longbows because I no longer needed them.  This one filled all the voids the others were lacking.

Not to be a smart guy, but I know all this.   I'm just asking for answers not opinions.  Everyone I've talked to about them says they are a fast bow but no one can tell me how fast...Black Widow fast?...Predator fast?...Palmer fast?

Hmmm here ya go. Talltines longbow, 57# at 30. 10.73 gr per pound, 176 ft per second.  I never checked the speed until after I killed an elk, a bear, a turkey and 8 whitetails. I have shot a bunch of bows "faster" but quieter, never.

Do a search for a thread titled "My Tall Tines Through the Chrony" and you can see some speeds posted on a couple different Tall Tines.   It looks like his 51# bow shoots a 10 gpp arrow at 180 fps and an 8.5 gpp arrow at 193 fps.  That's going to put it right in the same range as the bows on the chart above with a 9 gpp arrow.

You do realize that there are other factors beside GPP and bow design right?  Release, draw creep, back tension, etc., all will cause various speeds from the exact same bow with same arrow set up.  The shooter is more than likely the biggest variable in any set up.

What Dark timber said is about right.

I dont have have chrono #s.Thats the one test I remember that Dark timber referred to.

I have had a few Tall Tines recurves and was always very happy with the performance to my eye with the speed of the arrow.

I know thats not very scientific.I own and have owned many high performance bows and the TT has excellant performance believe me.

I think you would want to get the right length for speed as far as what riser and limbs would work best for you as far as maximizing the performance at your draw length in one of Brians recurves.Thier are probably one or 2 combinations that would be best for you as far as speed goes with his recurve at your specific draw.

They are smooth,dead in the hand,solidly built and accurrate no doubt!

I hade a custom grip made on one of mine that differs from the standard grip and it really fits my hand nice!So a custom fitted grip an option if you decide to bite the bullet and order one.Many love the standard grip though.

Would not wish to post my personal values since my chrony evaluation is poor with regard to an accurate and substantiated set-up. Will note that the TT's reading in a side to side test with a PSA....both shooting tuned arrows...and both arrows at near 9.0 gpp were w/I 2 fps.

arrow speed directly correlates to hitting power.  I am sure the TT has good arrow speed

   20+ bow chrono test

Buckster shows the TT at the top end for speed.

I chronographed my first TallTines with several other top end recurves I had at the time. Same weight, same arrows, and with a clicker on all of them. The numbers matched what I could see with my eye. The TT was faster. Significantly faster. The good thing is with a TT there is nothing you give up to get the speed. The are a dream to draw, they are solid, and they feel wonderful on release. Quiet and comfortable.   Gorgeous too. No finicky carbon or super secret and fragile material either. They are as solid and dependable as a bow gets.

Well I went and ordered one.  62" with the short riser and 56@30" draw.  I intend on shooting 10+ grain per pound, so we shall see.

Brian coined the phrase "Good look'n work truck"  I'll post pics when it gets here, but until then It will be a surprise what it looks like.
