Anyone fix limb split?
« on: July 18, 2013, 10:56:00 AM »
My Fathers old 70s KMag and Papa Bear signed limb split right where the riser goes merges into the limb. This is a futurewood model. Is this fixable? He's done hunting with it but, I wanted to take at least one deer with the signed bow.

Sorry to here about the bow.   I have 2 little K Mags from the early 70's....both in great shape,  a 45# that I shoot once in a while and a 40# I just keep safe...(I have a baby daughter and 2 young nephews coming up   ;) )  I love the K Mag.  Not sure but depending on that split,  I have a feeling you may have to keep her as a show piece....would you happen to have a pic of the split?  Im sure some great bowyers will chime in here and give you the real deal on this.....Ill keep my fingers crossed and hope you get to get after that deer with her!

It will be helpful to see the photos but there are at least two folks I know that I would trust to repair a delamination like it sounds you have.

I'll be keeping an eye on this post. I have a 65 K-Mag with a similar problem. It looks like a stress crack has went all the way through on the lower limb about a third of the way up. Its still shootable and the crack hasn't grown....but I'd hate to blow this beautiful old bow up.

I don't want to hijack the OP's thread but any info on a bowyer to heal it would be great.

After seeing it I believe that it is non repairable. He didn't really explain that it was actually broke.

Guess it's going on the wall

Sorry to hear about the break. They are sweet bows.

I love your signature though.... Zwicky, the 1911 of broadheads

If you want a wall hanger, to keep it for sentimental value. It should not shot once repaired.

I'd be surprised if it's fixable.  I've repaired delams successfully but not when the lams have broken, only when the glue line failed.  I'd "repair" it so that it looks good but then just hang it on the wall.  It might also be prudent to add a note to the bow stating that it is broken and should not be strung/shot.
