Pope & Young Shoot
« on: July 29, 2013, 11:49:00 AM »

Our traditional archery club hosted the Pope & Young Shoot here in Brownsville, Oregon this past weekend. It was the first time my 5 yr old grandson had attended. If you could have harnessed the enthusiasm and energy this boy had during the 3 days you could have lite up a city for a week! Sitting in our camp as the sun faded that first evening he tells me "Grandpa, I love our camp and I love this place".....good stuff. It has been such a blessing to see him grow as a young child and embrace our tradition in archery.
We do the Clout and Wand shoot in the Pope & Young. The Clout is a 180 yds to see how close you can get to a stake. The Wand being 100 yds to try and hit a post with a 2" wide stripe up it.  My grandson tried the Clout and told me he needed a bigger bow! haha
Isaiah 49:2...he made me a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.

He was telling everyone that asked that his grandpa makes the best arrows! Good boy! haha
His form is really good when shooting. Kind of surprising from this age I think. Yeah, he is exceptional....   :biglaugh:
This year there were more families with kids than I've ever seen. Really encouraging to see this.

First time out and he's already needing a bigger bow, well there's boy after my own heart.  I wonder where he can get some quality arrows to go with that bigger bow?!?!

Missed seeing you there Allen.

After "working" the Surewood Shaft booth he found a douglas fir stick on one of the paths and told me he was going to make an arrow out of it.

I was having a little trouble with my blueberry pancake project till he showed up and set me straight. The second batch was good.
Good times David.
