Many great bows out there from many great bowyers...I will offer my philosophy.  We have 4 children and a mix of right and left handed ones.  I have 3 small glass dual shelf bows starting with the Bear Lil Scout (in my avatar with a then 3 year old) on up.  Then I have a variety of old dual shelf bears going from 25-34#.

Any kid can come to my house and learn to shoot.  They move up through them fast and if you have a lot of grand kids the cost can pile up fast.  Plus some dont stick with it.

I have 6 bows to serve the young/entry level and I have less than $200 in all 6 combined

When we do 3-D I will sometimes use my 48# dual shelf Bear Alaskan just to fit in (and show the kids they are using real bows).  I may even hunt that bow this fall I like it so much.

+1 my little girl loves hers. Beautiful, vibrant bows and at a great price. St. Joe has a fantastic program for the kids.

I got my son a bear little brave 2, they run $50-$60 and it's not really heavy so my son has no problem drawing it.  but he loves that he has a recurve with a quiver like daddy's.
