quieting a Bob lee T/D curve ?????
« on: September 03, 2007, 03:39:00 PM »
I have a lee 60" td curve 52# @ 29"
shooting sitka spruce w/125 gr heads
have limb saver tween string "crosses"
have tip backs with moleskin
have 7 3/4 brace height
no quiver (really loud w/ great northern full)and or empty(quick mount)

it sounds like a long lasting muffled twang upon release, and you can fee it in the bow also.

any sugg. or do I just have to wait for my assenheimer ????

I have been trying to silence my Bob Lees since I got my first one in  2002. I have tried everything almost except limbsaver mushrooms can't see that on my limbs. The best way I have found is the soften loop like Rob Lee recommends also Bow Hush and Hush Puppies work good but I also wrap the loop itself and then down the string.I got next to the target safely and had my son-in-law shoot and no downrange noise but  me shooting I still hear it more so than my K-mag and Howatt Hunter.I have killed a couple deer and couple of hogs with my Lees so I guess not too loud.Good luck and pass on anything you find that works.Kip

Try raising the brace height up to 8" to 8 1/4". Rob told me the recurves and T/D longbows shoot quietest and best at this BH, for most people.

Dip loop ends in lacquer thinner for 10 minutes, pull out and wipe them down with a paper towel, repeat again. Rob recommends this. It softens the loop ends.

It took me a while also, but finally got it quiet.
Soften loops as mentioned above.
Insert short strands of wool yarn into the weave of the flemish string near the ends where the string would contact the limbs.
Get rid of the moleskin on the back of the limbs if you have it.
I used heavy wool silencers at 1/4 points of string.
Raise BH as needed. Some folks have told me that you don't want to go below 8" on a BL TD.
Worked for me.

+1 on putting the brace height to 8".  I have a 60" Classic.  I also have a Mountain Muffler string, which I think helps quite a bit, too.  I think mine is pretty quiet.  I can guarantee you it's quieter than my other BL 58" Signature, which has a shorter brace height and the original string from BL.

Instead of messing with the Lacquer.  Use Bow Hush.  Works great on mine.

At least 8" on the brace.  The yarn puffs seem to work best on my Lee.  My TD Hunter is actually fairly quiet.

When I bought my HUNTER T/D I spoke to Rob Lee, Bob's son, and he told me to keep the brace height at 8" or very close to 8". I don't have any problems with my bow whats so ever. I use those yarn balls (puffs)and my bow is silent, but I keep it at 8".
Hope the info helps and good hunting this season.

Set the brace height @ 8" and put a set of limbsavers on the limbs just past the fadeouts to take out all vibration.
