I've a soft spot for any Damon Howatt!!!  I expect it is a good bow although I'm not personally familiar with the High Speed.  Get an AMO 45" string or have a string maker make up a custom.

I think you mean a 54" string for an AMO 58" bow.

Maybe Blackhawk will see this, I'm sure he knows the brace height answer.
I find the older I get, the less I used to know!

Great bows! I have a buddy that has one. Its a shooter for sure as are all the Howatts. I like b-50 or 55 on my Hunter. Oliverstacey can set you up with a fine string.

With some searching you can find the older websites for Howatt and Martin as well as the spec charts for each year. A pic would help determining year.

Yes, a dacron string would work well.  For brace height, I like to start at the low end (around 7.5" for the HS).  Shoot a few arrows and twist up, shoot, and keep doing this until you get best flight and quietest bow.  You will probably end up around 8" with a properly spined arrow.

Thanks for catching that!

Shoulda said an AMO length string for a 58" bow.  If I was maiking one it would be a 55" for starters, but that could be too long.

Storms,Yes the Hi Speeds are great bows. Good shooters and lookers. I also have a 58" 45#er that i'll be taking deer hunting this fall. Good luck with yours.

That is a mixed up set of pictures. The larger one (or second from left of smaller pics) is the belly side of a Howatt Super Diablo which is a 60" bow. The other pics are of an early Hi Speed which would likely be 58", although they did make some shorter. If it is in fact a 58" bow then you would want a B-50 or B-55 dacron 54" string and Blackhawk is correct on brace height. They were, and still are, great little bows. Good choice, but if it's a Hi Speed you will not see that white glass.

If it does have the white glass it's a 60" Super Diablo which would use a 56" string. Another GREAT Howatt bow.
