Lone Wolf hand climber seat cushion improvement ??
« on: August 22, 2013, 10:04:00 AM »
Love my LW hand climber but was wondering if I could make or find a little extra cushion for the seat.. I was told they make a pad but haven't looked yet, it may be a tad pricey too.. Anyways, any fairly cheap, comfortable cushions out there I could put on my top section? Thanks

I bought a closed cell foam seat designed to be a cushion for sitting on the ground and attached it to the hand climber. It overhangs a bit and makes the seat so very much more comfortable. Best thing I ever did...

The older ones had a real thick pad.  The new ones have the quilted looking one.  I have the newer one on my assault and the thick one on the hand climber.  They are both kind of okay for setting.  The thinner one could be better for setting your arms on to climb. The thick one feels a little squishy and off height for that to me, but the think on may be a little harder on your arms.  I am not sure on that without trying one to compare.

I would just go out and get a thick seat cushion from the store.  They have some nice ones available.  Then cut to fit with a hacksaw.  You should also be able to cut in some slots or something for a strap to strap it on. I have done that with my older baby gorilla stands when the squirrels have eaten them. You can make up some Velcro straps or some webbing straps with adjustment buckle and clips.  You can get that stuff from a fabric store or Wal-Mart.

They was to make a new one. Guess not. He also told me they was to make a grommet for long bows and recurves. I'm guessing its not happened yet. Cause no one is talking about it

I bought one of these from Gorilla and use on my Hand Climber...$30.00 I believe. Lone Wolf makes one similar for around $60.00.

I bought an extra seat for my Summit viper. The seat is tight but works great, it has the high back on it to keep your back dry when the tree is wet. I have the hand Lone wolf climber it a great stand for my recurve because my bar in front folds down or under your seat witch ever you prefer.

I don't have a real metal seat in my Hand Climber anymore..I hack-sawed it out years ago and put a piece of net James from Hazmore net seats gave me a few years back to try in it. That's why I bought the Gorilla Seat to put on the net. I just set it up with the net this summer..had something similar for many years with an older Gorilla seat.

It's a real old model Lone Wolf Handclimber and I think they enlarged the seat some in the newer models anyway. But the Gorilla Cushion does work for me..it's got straps and can be adjusted. The Lone Wolf Cushion may be better..I haven't seen one in person.

Hunters Speacialty (self-inflating) air pillow w/strap over the top of the Lone Wolf pad.  Not too much air, just a little to keep your bones off the metal. It distributes the weight better for better blood flow- so longer sits.

Buy two or three and test them at home during supper or on the couch for a 2 hour movie. Keep the one that holds air, and return the others that leak. I buy one every couple years - about $14.

I use it in the off season elsewhere: canoe, bleachers, squirrel sitting, and as a lumbar support in the truck.  Just vary the air volume as needed.  For compact storage or packing, squeeze the air out by rolling it up and closing the valve.

I use a self inflating pad like the backpackers use (Thermarest). Light weight and comfortable. I wrap it in a Rivers West blanket with a slit sewn in the middle to make a poncho.

This has been a real good system for me in cooler weather. The blanket is one of the more useful multi-functional products I have ever purchased.

I have used it as a poncho, improvised blind, ground cloth for lunch or nap ect, ect.

I also use a self inflating pad made by Browning for some of my hang on stands. I de-flate it, roll it up and stick in my backpack..light as a feather and use wherever.

Don,

Do you mind posting a couple pic's of your Mods to the hand climber? Have seen where you have posted before and I would love to see how you did it, thanks.

John, I don't have the pictures anymore and my climber is about a mile back in Shawnee National Forest locked to the base of a tree waiting on Oct. 1.

I don't recommend anybody saw up their Lone Wolf Climbers like I did. I'm a little leery of mine every time I go up and down a tree. Didn't leave much structure.

Mine is a real old one and I'm pretty sure smaller seat than the ones today. It was unbearable to me and I just quit using it so decided I would either make it more comfortable or completely ruin it with the hack saw..no loss.

I would say it's now my favorite, but don't want to give anybody and crazy ideas.

Hunt Comfort is the company that made a cushion for Lone Wolf.  It is memory foam.  I contacted them for a cushion for my Waldrop pacseat.  The sling was rubbing my butt sore while turkey hunting.  The cushion is great and sticks to the sling material.  I was telling them that I hunt from a Lone wolf hand climber.  They said they had a prototype for that seat but at the time LW hadn't decided whether to sell it or not.  Well I bought one from them.  A bit pricy...but my butt is very happy!!  I'd rather leave my bow at home than not have my Thermacell & Hunt Comfort seat.  I'm too old to not be comfortable...tippit
