Ladder Stand advice

You might want to check out Big Game Stands, my buddy has acouple of them, he uses mostly for gun hunting, but does use them for bow hunting on occation.  I sat in one last year,very comfortable, has a flip up rest in front, sling style seat with a backrest too. I don't think they were that expensive either.

Well looks like I am on the hunt for something different.  I have kids coming up to hunting age and plan to get a couple more ladders.  I like at least a 16’ platform height myself so a lot of these are too short for my liking. Any $300-400 for a ladder stand is out.  

I like the looks of the Rivers Edge Bowman is a decent one set up like I want and the price is right.  Some of their comfort stands also look  to have deep platforms and fold up seats.  Looks like the arm rests come off without a problem.  But, as comfortable as I am sure the mesh seat is, I don't like the idea of having to replace them when the squirrels take a liking to eating them.  I know in my part of the world they take special pleasure in doing that.  I guess after they eat the first mesh seat, I could always mount a piece of treated plywood on the seat frame and put a carry in pad on it.

Got mine at Basspro Shop. Ladder breaks down to 4 sections(use as many ladder sectons as you need).

I've got a 17 ft. Gorilla ladder stand and absolutely love it, cost me about $120 bucks, has a flip up or down shooting rail and it's the most comfortable stand I've ever used next to my Summit Goliath Climber.

Dicks sells Rivers Edge and on sale they can be had for 50 bucks. With a little tweaking they can be made very quiet and for the money to me are the best ladder stands out there. I also love the new light weight or even not so light weight climbing sticks and a bracket type stand like the Chippewa wedge-lok, great portable set-up and keeps me mobile. I can actually set up a set of sticks and the stand quicker than guys using a climber and I am not limited to straight limbless trees. Shawn

Ive owned a couple
IMO opt for one with no arm rest
I got one for $40 last year at a home improvement center.
15 ft.
I put it up last weekend and I seem to like it.
I think the name was skyraider

I also like the ones with steel bars instead of cable supporting the foot platform.

Only Leverage for me. I gave all my other ladder stands away. I can't stand for hours on end waiting for a shot and the side rails have cost me more shots than I can remember.

I would buy a climber. Every time I put up a ladder stand for the kids to hunt out of someone either hunts it for me or steals it. LCH

Man, I am a cheap-skate! I built mine from 2 x 4's. Drilled holes in it for an axle, slip a rod through the holes, put on a couple of old bike wheels and it's a cart for dragging. Kinda like an L shaped wheelbarrow.
It's a lot like me cheap and ugly but gets the job done!

I've been using the Big Dog Blue Tick for several years as it has the flip-up seat and the back to the tree platform.  However, the stand now on display at the local Farm & Home has a nylon sling seat vice the metal flip-up.  Like Fletcher I took a look at the Scheel's stand and it would be a good one, although I do believe the local Fox squirrels would love the nylon seat.

I like this thread as I will be using a ladder stand I bought from a coworker.  Not sure what brand but it is heavy and won't be moved once it is set up.
