Hello Folks. Have been getting back into traditional archery the last couple years. I have a couple questions I need some help on. I am shooting a Predator Classic 52lbs @ 28". I can consistently hit a 8" circle at 15 out to 20 yards. I am shooting a carbon arrow 400 spine (Cabelas Stalker extreme 55/70)@ 8.4 grains per inch, that I added 100 grain of parachute cord to the inside as weight (trick I saw here). My total grain weight for the arrow is 625 grains. I like how quiet the bow is now. But, I was curious and shot through a chronograph and could only push 149 to 152fps. Is this, in your opinion too slow for deer hunting if I limit my shots to 20 yards?  Am I too heavy for the 52 lbs of pull.
 I did a FOC calculation and had 9.7 with a KE of 31.98

I forgot to mention, 1 have a 50 grain brass insert with a 125 grain tip. I am shooting 5 1/2 banana fletchings.

You should be shooting a .500 spine arrow out of that set-up unless you are shooting the .400 spine at full length. I would also would say, why would you want to shoot 12 gpp. of draw weight. Deer are thin skinned and 8-10gpp. is more than enough. As your saying goes, Accuracy kills everytime, everything else is just numbers. If you can shoot well with that set-up and the arrows are flying perfect it will do. I would think though if you were shooting around 9gpp. you would get 180 fps. or more out of that set-up and the flat trajectory may help you tighten up your groups. 8"s at 15 yards is not great and at 20 yards that can equal a miss if the deer just moves an inch. That bow shelf should be cut 3/16 past center and should like a stiffer shaft, your arrow length is needed to get ya in the ball park. 29.5-30 inch arrow with 50 grain insert w/225- 250gr point will get ya close and also 50-60grs lighter if you also remove the rope from inside the shafts.Good luck. OH AND RE-TUNE WITH BARESHAFTING OR PAPER TUNING.

No, it is not too slow. If you are getting good accuracy, worry about form, broad head sharpness, and stand location. Forget about a damn chronograph. Just go hunting.

I agree with Sam.  On the other hand, really no need for the 100 grains of parachute cord.

I would like to thank you all for the varing advice. I should keep with what is working for now. I may lighten up a bit to gain just a bit of speed. I will be using a Magnus 125 grn two blade. And for clarification to Shawn, I should have put "center of a 8" circle" I can see why you might have thought "all over in an 8 inch circle"
