John McCullough longbows

Does anyone know how to get ahold of John McCullough? I have some questions regarding his longbows. Does anyone shoot one who would like to comment on their experience with them.

The Griffin, his longbow, is a super bow.  I have one and I would never get rid of it.  In fact it is the only modern hunting bow I have.

I had 2 griffins.You cant go wrong with them.Alot of experienced archers shoot Griffins.He does have other models as well.My experience with his bows was all good.He has alot of experience as a bowyer and produces an exceptional product.

Just bought a Griffin from another member here a few weeks ago.  It is reasonably fast, and super smooth to draw and shoot.  I don't have as much experience with as many different custom bows as a lot of guys here, but I can tell you that the Griffin is the sweetest shooter I've found yet!  It's not hard on the eyes either!  Good luck!

John's bows are exceptional..  I currently have a 68in. Tsunami long bow..  It has a little more mass in the riser, which I like.  Also have owned a Griffin and it was a great shooter..  John makes the Shrews for Ron LaClair.  Under 60in. is a Shrew, over 60in. is a McCoullough bow..  My Tsunami has the same great grip that the Shrew does..  John is also a great fellow..  Jim

under 60 is a shrew and over 60 is a griffin..but i dont believe john has made any shrews for Ron Laclair for awhile...you cant go wrong with either a shrew or a griffin...and i also wouldnt over look Jason Kendall of jkbows.com...extremely nice bow for $ and similar to the shrew and griffin.

I have a Griffin and it is 60". Great shooting bow,not sure where you are coming from saying "under 60" a shrew and over 60" a Griffin". If it is a Shrew it will be marked as a Shrew, if a Griffin will be marked as a Griffin.

Danny, I could be wrong, but I think both the Griffin and the Shrew could be had in 60" models, but only the Griffin in longer, and only the Shrew in shorter.  I have a Griffin that I love.  I think there is also a bit of difference in the limb design.  A Shrew limb is thinner but wider than my Griffin.  That might be part of designing a longer bow?

John is going to make me a 58" Griffin.

John was making Super Shrews for me from 1995 until a year ago when he decided he wanted to, according to him, "slow down and smell the roses".

John was making fine wood bow replicas when I approached him with the original Super Shrew prototype I had designed. It was then he started making the Shrews for me. A year or two afterwards he started making a bow he called the Griffin which was VERY similar to the Super Shrew. I ask him if he wanted to make his own line why didn't he come up with his own design. He said because he couldn't make a better design than  that. John said his Griffins would be 62" and longer while the Shrews would be from 54 to 60". I guess the popularity of the shorter Super Shrews made him change his mind.      

The current form that Gregg is using for the Super Shrew gives the limb more reflex than the Griffen.  Handles are also slightly different.

And there ya' have it from a horse's mouth       Some small differences, but both are fine shootin longbows, and if you get your hands on either I doubt you'll ever find one better.  The Shrews are as good as they come and the grip melts into your hand.
