My Backyard Range
« on: September 02, 2013, 06:05:00 PM »
Living in town sucks for a lot of reasons but it doesn't have to be all bad.

I made a backstop out of three layers of heavy carpet hung loose from a 6' wood fence. Add a nice bag target and viola! Shooting in town. It rolls up nice and neat and stores in garage. Takes all of 10 minutes to set up and take down. The whole area is fenced BTW and I have right at 25 yards max.

You sure know how to make a guy envious. We also have a 6' high wood barrier - in my case a 6' high retaining wall backed up by a high hill above it.

Unfortunately, my neighbor lives on top of the hill and can see down into our yard. Police say that's a no-no for me   :(

Nice yard, by the way.

After 7 years of shooting in my back yard the police shut me down a few weeks back.  I could shoot up to 80 yds.

I would put an overhang just in case you get a deflecting arrow up and over the fence. You never know where that arrow could end up.

That's not a bad idea and it would be easy to do. I was thinking of just extending the height with a sheet of plywood but an overhang makes more sense and would be a whole lot less likely to be noticed by the neighbors.

I'll mention I did check the local laws and archery is legal as long as the arrows stay on your property. If they get out and land on an adjacent property they're considered "escaping arrows" and can get a person in hot water. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that it's legal at all here in the BAN state...
