Jason, why would you not of shot him. He was suffering for sure and to try and free him may of been suicide. The kid did the right thing!! Very Cool pic.!! Shawn

This was last season and the shooter was 16. When this kid was 14 he killed 182" typical with a shotgun! Talk about ruined.

Well done and awesome photo.  My buddy has two racks locked together that his dad found while rabbit hunting - 136 and 145, which in our neighborhood are both studs.  Glad the shooter was able to put a humane end to this one.

That is a once in a lifetime experience for sure. That young hunter made a good decision to end that bucks suffering and ended up with 2 nice racks & some good meat. I would say he would have some high expectations after killing bucks of that caliber this early in his hunting life.

I guess I would have had to of been there Shawn, if he was for sure going to die no matter what I did I would have killed him without hesitation. The one he shot may have been worse off than I can tell in the photo. I am not judging him at all, that's a heck of a trophy and a great story to go with it.

Back when I was a teen I found 2 140+ 8 pointers locked up tight, one looked about dead and the other barely moved. A friend and I crawled in close and we were able to unlock them, one ran away as soon as they were unlocked, the other stayed there for about 20 minutes before it got up and staggered away. We saw them both many more times that November chasing does. Perhaps it was stupid of us to even try but we did it anyways.
