One of my favorites even though he uses a compound is Chuck Adams. I met him when I was a child and it stuck with me for a long time. The man is a legend and a bowhunting machine. Fred Bear is the reason I got started hunting with traditional equipment and has an impressive list of accomplishments as well. Too many variables including opinions on what makes a great hunter. There were many greats; some were famous and others unheard of. The list of names in the Bowhunters Hall of Fame is pretty impressive. I think we can all agree on some of our favorites though!

The Best Bowhunter in the last hundred years?
I could put a lot of different names there... BUT the best bowhunter of all time ? Jesus Christ. He hit God's bullseye so that "whosoever will" could have all their sins forgiven and spend eternity in heaven with him. The picture of sin in the Bible is literally missing the bullseye ! Jesus did for us what we couldn't do for ourselves !

My uncle Charlie, as a child he gave me his left handed bow my first, it was a Jennings.  He bought a brand new Super Kodiak, he would pick me up every weekend and I would stay at his house, he would take me shooting at the club he belonged to and made me who I am today. To me I looked up to him, he hunted to pass it on. You see I know a lot of guys that hunt hard, kill a lot of game and hunt all over the world hunting some of the most awesome game a man could desire. My uncle had me in a manmade tree stand he made at age twelve years old, we had a doe come in and he let me try to shoot her. I messed it up and he made me feel like I just won the super bowl. My Uncle was the best hunter in the last hundred years. Oh and god is my light, and his only son is who he is. God bless

I wish my dad had been a hunter. I learned a lot from him, including most of my values, but hunting was never of interest to him. Wish I could have lived closer to a couple of my uncles who did hunt.

But, as the saying goes, "If wishes were fishes, we'd have some fried".

I do try to pass on my love of hunting to both of my boys, although they prefer to do it with a gun.

I just talked to my granddaughter on the phone and she thinks it would be really cool to learn how to shoot a bow. She's only 6 and small for her age, but trying to keep up with her on the monkey bars is how I tore up my shoulder. She has calluses all over her hands and is exceptionally strong for her light weight, absolutely fearless on horses and loves the outdoors, so maybe I can teach her to be the greatest bow hunter of the next 100 years   :)

Does there have to be a "best" ?  Can we just have a bunch of memorable guys and gals that do the same things we like to do ?

Why do we always have to compete with everything in life ?

O.K., In my opinion there is a guy out there that when it comes to taking animals has taken many. He is a senior member of P&Y and the founder of Compton traditional Bowhunters. His hard work has been instrumental in many conservation issues. He has selflessly guided more hunters free of charge to their rams, goats, and mulies than I can count. He has tirelessly worked with kids, teaching them the traditional ways. I could go on and on but his name?.............................Marv Clyncke.

I would say fred bear had the biggest impact on modern archery. He probably wasnt the best hunter or bow maker using his own hands but his legacy had the greatest impact on traditional archery.I have alot of respect for him and others who made archery what it is today.

Many of the answers sound more like a popularity contest than actually who is the best hunter in the last 100 years. I know some really great bow hunters and of some really great bowhunters but best. No clue. If it was on elk though I would have to vote for Big Dan. He has literally several tons of elk in the books. I would also bet that he would nominate someone else. LOL That's just how it is. I know who it isn't though, It isn't me by a 100 yard heart shot /

God bless, Steve
