barge cement??
« on: September 08, 2013, 05:04:00 PM »
hi    :help:    I am replacing a leather handle wrap that I used Barge cement to install.  Is there an easy/easier/easiest way to get that stuff off of riser.?

I've had pretty good luck with lighter fluid if it's really old. Otherwise, Goo Gone works pretty good for me. Just make sure you clean it up well afterward with some soap and water to get the oil off before you try to re-glue it.

Acetone should cut it. Barge makes a thinner that will work.

I got some on our formica counter top. I tried mayonnase, alcohol(rubbing) no deal. As a last resort I got a little gasoline out of our lawnmower & bingo it came right up. Don't know if you'd want it on the finish of your bow though?

That's why I suggested lighter fluid. I'd be very careful putting acetone on the bow finish. Whatever you try, put it on a very small area which will be covered by the new wrap.

My wife uses a "non-acetone" nail polish remover and I've borrowed it for that purpose.  Regular acetone is a solvent, so I would expect it would work, but watch for it to dissolve any finish that's been applied to the bow as well.
