23% FOC?
« on: September 06, 2007, 10:09:00 AM »
I have set my beautiful POC arrows. I found I had to order lower spined shafts. Until that order comes in I am shooting some carbons that I have 210gr. up front. I figured the FOC to be 23%. The total weight of the arrows is 565gr. They are GT5575s at 29.5" with a 28" draw length, shooting a 53#@28" longbow, D97 string. They seem to fly good. I was looking at a site that shows how to figure FOC and they say 23% is excessive or not within the right range. What do you think?

I thiknthe otehr site is all wet. Do a search on high FOC here and most other boards and you will see there are many benefits and 23% is not that high.

Carbons are a different animal....23% is not excessive if tuned properly. If you are getting good flight, both bareshaft and feathered, forget about it. I'm not so sure you can get too excessive with FOC and carbons, at least from my experience.

I shoot 720 grain arrows with about 300 grains up front, they fly great and hit with authority.  Forget what that other site says, go with what flies good.

I have a 5575 30" long with 250 grains up front.  It sailed through a deer on Saturday (slightly quartering towards).  High FOC gives good penetration if the arrow flight is good.

Thanks for your input guys. I look forward to the opportunity for a real world test of these arrows on an elk this season. I think with the impact they make on the broadhead target they will do the job!
