gasket lacquer question
« on: September 06, 2007, 12:30:00 PM »
Is the gasket lacquer from 3 Rivers the same stuff that Kustom King sells?  KK markets theirs as Squeegie System Clear Coat (gasket lacquer) and that is the lacquer I bought since I was on their site and had a pretty big order.

In a recent post I asked about the paint to use for cresting under gasket lacquer.  I have tried both Testors enamal and Testors acrylic model paints.  Both were wiped off during the dip in gasket lacquer with the enamal fairing a little better.

So now I have to buy compatible cresting paint for gasket lacquer and don't wish to buy any more paint that is going to be dissolved and wiped off by the GS dip.

Thanks

I think it's basically the same stuff.  Simple solution would be give KK a call and talk to Tim or Gobby and see what they reccomend.

Put my bohning cresting over the gasket lacquer.  That was the only way I can get that whole system to get along.

I tried to put a clear base of G.L. then come back over it with yellow G.L. to try to use yellow G.L. as crown dip.  That was a disaster.

the most successful method i have used to keep the paint from running, is to put a light coat of spray on poly over the cresting. Let it dry then dip in the laquer.

I use Bohning cresting laquer  for my crest.. Everything elses smears off. I let mine sit for 2 days before finishing the gasket laquer.
Damn Nice guy
