New bow day
« on: September 11, 2013, 09:23:00 AM »
Just unboxed a new-to-me RER Arroyo 54".  It's my first "performance" bow, if you will, and just from the first few shots I'm quite impressed.  I'm not into chrono's and all that, but from shooting around other people I know my other bows were not slowpokes, but this thing has some unreal snap and cast.  Nearly longbow quiet and zero shock, with a very smooth draw for such a short bow.

I'm working up some arrows that should be a good fit (thanks Shawn for the recipe) and will give a better report soon.

Here's the specs:

And - this is NOT a bash on the seller or the builder - you can see a white streak in this pic.  There are three of these on the bow, under the glass.  The seller was a bit afraid of this, and his description and price clearly reflected the uncertainty.  They are subsurface; I think it's just flaws in the glass, not a structural issue.  I've shot it a few dozen times - nothing.  But, I have the ends of them marked and will watch carefully.

Anybody else seen something like this?  I've read a little on the bowyer forum, some guys would drill the ends and inject thin CA glue.  I'm thinking wait and see.

Overall, I love the quick feel and pointability of this bow and the satin finish.  And did I mention it's pretty swift?

Hi I am new, but I must comment on the RER bows, they are really smooth and have zero hand shock.
I really want to work my way up to one in the near future.

Mike,
So you were the buyer of that RER Arroyo
You got a VERY good price on it due to the glass streaks and the fella did show the flaws and I respect him for pointing them out before someone bought it...You won't be disapointed in it's performance that's for sure...
Also by asking Shawn about setting it up and what works that's also was a good idea cause he has had a few and knows them well..
I'm on my second Bocote and my 2012 has the bamboo core while my other one had osage core...
These are well built bows and  must say you got the deal of the year on one...

I think so to, Keefer.  Don was totally up front with the deal, and I've already bugged Shawn for an arrow recipe.  I had to order some heavier inserts but should have them by the weekend so I hope to finish tuning Saturday.  I'm very jacked about this bow.

Me too, Don, but even if it doesn't, you definitely did me right on this one.  Many thanks!  Hope to be sharing some "end result" pics this fall.
