? for Maine Hunters
« on: September 11, 2013, 02:29:00 PM »
I am heading upto Maine next weekend for a little fishing near Waterville, ME.  I was wondering if there are any bear hunting opportunities in that area.  If so I may stay a couple days and bear hunt.

There are bears all over central Maine, but you have to find a place where you and the bears won't have your plans changed by humans unexpectedly intervening, on ATVs and otherwise.

Nearly all bears taken with a bow in Maine are taken over bait that has been in place for weeks before the season.

I suspect that all the guides and outfitters are booked up by this time. The chance of crossing paths with a bear on your own is slim to none.

Sorry to not offer more hope, but that's the facts.

Tony, I don't know how far you are willing to travel but hunterspoint guide service in portage has plenty of openings. They only have one hunter this week and six the next. In my opinion next week might be the best week of the season as there should be less natural food. Give Phil Allen a call at 207-894-2248 and see what kind of deal he can give you. God bless, Scott.
