How many hunt on the ground and stand next to a tree?I shoot better standing, even though I practice a lot sitting.Seems like movement would be the same.

I mostly sit, legs just don't hold out long.
Even sitting in my 360 chair I like a large tree or brush at my back.
Years ago used to hunt by large trees. Cleared all the leaves etc. away all the way around the base. If a deer was approaching I'd slip around keeping the tree between me and the deer till it passed for a shot. Killed my largest doe this way.

Funny you should ask that question 3Feathers. I just posted on the "Ground Hunting" thread about the buck I killed last year doing exactly that. I partially learned the effectiveness of this method from an old gun hunter. He would stand in front of a large tree all day long. Hour after hour he would just stand there and watch. He killed Deer too. I like to mix it with still hunting when the ground is quiet for walking. Was doing exactly that when I shot a Buck last year. I won't repeat the story, but you can read it on the Ground Hunting thread.

I used to hunt that way in the early 70s before portable tree stands were popular got a few shots with a bow but never killed anything but killed a few with a gun that way.

When my dad hit his 70's he started to hunt from the ground. He took his loc on stand and put it on the tree about a foot off the ground. He said the stand kept him closer to the tree. He also liked that the stand kept his feet flat. When he got tired he could sit down.
